Clements Ribeiro SS-2012

THERE’s a light summer mood inspired by afternoons dabbling in British sunshine infusing the London collections this week and Clements Ribeiro caught it just right. It’s the label’s third season back on the London catwalk and designers Suzanne Clements and Inacio Ribeiro are clearly back into the London swing.
Silk shirt dresses and long shorts with matching vests carried sweet inky floral prints that were brought into relief by later versions overlaid in lace, their lightness and femininity given a sporty touch via cashmere knits in candy stripes of blue, fuchsia, purple and green.
Patchworks of dotted and floral silk dresses were held on by fine shoe lace straps across bare backs and cream linen coats or oat-coloured shorts with a stripe of blue down each thigh gave the collection a slightly more practical accent. Sexy, mussed up, slept-in ponytails added an edge to the show, while a great black and white story – featuring optical illusion checked dresses and trousers with matching tops (head-to-toe print is already emerging as a spring/summer 2012 trend), sometimes with black lace interjected at the sleeves, looked energetic and sexy.
Racer-backed vests featuring the same prints as the trousers below billowed away from the models bodies in the wrong places – an unflattering moment in an otherwise delectable and wearable show – and if you’re looking for great shoes next spring, these block heeled sandals featuring stripes of the same shades of grey, tan, gold, pink and green above them are a great place to start.
