The Young Street Bridge name will not be renamed after Cobain

A bridge immortalised on Nirvana's 'Nevermind' album will now not be named after Kurt Cobain as a way of commemorating the late singer. Cobain is said to have slept  under the Young Street Bridge which crosses the Wishkah, and which has now become an attraction for Nirvana fans.

Aberdeen City Council in Washington state voted 10/1 against renaming the Young Street Bridge, which was referenced in the song 'Something In The Way'.

KXRO, via AP, reports that the audience at the council meeting reacted to the vote with applause. It is thought that the decision not to name the bridge after Cobain was taken because of his controversial drug use and suicide, as well as the fact that he often made disparaging remarks about his hometown of Aberdeen.

The council did vote to name a small body of land on the Wishkah River the Cobain Landing.

'Nevermind' will be reissued on September 26 with two new versions, the Deluxe and Super Deluxe editions, hitting the shelves.
